Early on Sunday the 18th of September JR Pet Products had a large fire break out at their Llandovery site. Thankfully no one was injured.

Multiple fire crews arrived and worked around the clock to get the fire under control.

Finally on Wednesday the 21st of September the fire crews managed to finally put the fire out and were able to leave the site. It was at this point JR Pet Products could get to see what damage the fire had caused.

The packing facility and two warehouses were completely destroyed. The warehouses had approximately 900 pallets of finished stock that was ready for sale. Thankfully their main headquarters in Brecon and their other sites in Llandovery were unaffected.

They estimate the loss of stock alone to be over one million pounds before even looking at the actual cost buildings and equipment for the packing process. That was also lost.

Naturally such a loss will have an impact on their operations and ability to fulfil orders. However, while the fire crews were still fighting the fire, Management were activating their disaster recovery plan. Within 48 hours from the start of the fire, and while it was still blazing away, JR Pet Products were able to predict minimal out of stock issues. More importantly with only a slight delay of a few days, all orders have been fulfilled and are now almost back to normal turnaround times for new orders.

The management at JR Pet Products, Becky, Jonathan & Stephen, have commented about the fire:
“We have an amazing team of people and the surrounding community has been hugely supportive. The fire crews are TRULY INCREDIBLE and we simply can't thank them enough.

A particular thank you to the brave firefighter who moved our new 18 tonne lorry whilst the cab was melting from the heat. His bravery was immense and we are truly grateful.

The local community has been incredibly supportive, we have had some wonderful offers of help and many have given up their own time to help in any way they can - thank you!

Apologies to the residents of Llandovery for covering them in thick smoke and ash, we are so sorry that it had a negative impact on the ‘Sheep Festival’ that was running this weekend, we know how hard the community has worked preparing for this event.

We would like to publicly reassure our 50+ colleagues that there is no risk of any job losses due to the fire and the business remains in a strong trading position. We cannot thank our team enough for the ‘we will not be defeated attitude’ in dealing with the fall out of the fire, we are blessed to be working with them.

Thank you so much to all of you who have sent such wonderful and supportive messages to us, it means so much.“
