Hello from Spain my pals, or should I say hola!

It's a weird time to be here as we are away during the Queen's death and funeral. It's very sad and a bit surreal. We've watched all the coverage and the funeral, a lot on Spanish tv which has been covering proceedings. As we're staying in Benidorm there's a lot of Union Flags out and British holiday makers. Still, being abroad at such times is always odd.

It's the first trip that I've used my new French dog passport on and I was most relieved to be waved through. We knew it was all in order but there's always a slight worry first time.

We drove down through France the usual route, Calais to Lyon and Montpellier. Into Spain and to Roses, Peniscola and then Benidorm. We're here for three weeks, for once staying in once place for a while! This year, thankfully, we also have aircon as it's pretty warm.

Elaine has spent a few days volunteering at the Sociedad Protectectura de Animales y Plantas in Benidorm. It an established local rescue centre for cats and dogs which was founded in 1971. The volunteers there are so nice and although they have capacity for over 200, Elaine was told there were around 60 dogs in the kennels at the moment. Volunteers walk all the dogs in the morning to give them exercise and a break from their kennels. It's hard work in the sunshine but so worth it.

The centre isn't as spangly and rich as a UK one, they never are, but the staff work extremely hard for all the animals. Naturally Elaine would take them all home if she could but I am definitely a one dog kind of dog!!
