Life cycle:
There are nearly 100 varieties of cucumber.
It takes around 70 days to produce cucumbers.
Train the main stem up a vertical wire, netting or cane. Pinch out the growing point when it reaches the greenhouse roof or required height if grown outdoors. Pinch out the tips of sideshoots two leaves beyond a female flower (which has a tiny fruit behind it). Pinch out the tips of flowerless sideshoots once they reach 60cm (2ft) long.

Eating:
The skin of a cucumber is edible.
Cucumbers are usually eaten raw, they can be cooked but can end up mushy if you are not careful.

Dogs love cucumber but eating too much at once could cause digestive discomfort and excess gas.
They can be served as slices or chunks that are small enough to avoid choking.

Dogs can also eat a small amount of cooked cucumber in their meals too.

Rabbits love cucumbers and the plant leaves.
They can be served thin slices.
As with all foods given to rabbits, they must be carefully measured out to be included in their diet.

Cats do not naturally eat or enjoy cucumbers or any vegetables.
