Fireworks season starts again
The age-old discussion of fireworks is here again. Some humans love them, and some humans and animals fear them.

The main reason some humans and animals are terrified of fireworks, from late October until after the New Year they have to suffer the constant worry of random fireworks being set off at any time day or night.

There is also the antisocial humans. They are not buying fireworks o enjoy them, they are buying them to distress, annoy and bully others. These are the humans that should never be allowed to purchase fireworks.

Putting the noise and anti-social worries aside, there is the huge waste and contamination problem afterwards. Not only is the discarded firework packaging hot from the explosions that could start an accidental fire, it is also toxic to humans and animals.

Humans look up and enjoy the fireworks without realising they are zooming up into the air at around 60 to 100 metres (200 to 500 feet) or even higher. The used firework cannot be picked up straight away as it is still hot, so are left to cool down. Which means a lot are not picked up.

Thankfully some supermarkets like the Co-Op and Sainsbury’s have decided to completely ban the sale of fireworks in their stores.

Other supermarkets are including more low noise fireworks in their available range. There is also a noticeable change to the dates the fireworks are available to purchase and that customers can only purchase in store to control who purchases them and when.

I would not like to see a total ban on fireworks as there are celebrations and certain times and places for fireworks.

Official firework displays only could be one solution. Not only would humans get to see fireworks, but as it is an official display it could be a lot bigger, louder and more spectacular. There could also be extra activities on those days to make it a bigger event and raise funds to cover the cost of the firework display.

This would be great for animals too as we could time any calming methods we need to do to cope even if the display was louder as we would have an actual firework activity time from the organisers to prepare.

Low noise fireworks are starting to be used and although they are still the minority, it is appreciated that they are being used.
Some companies are even looking at using drones as a firework alternative.

Even having humans set off fireworks randomly throughout the evening, on the actual celebration day, would be great. Yes, the fireworks would be set off randomly and we would not get any warning, but it would only be for one night. It would be stressful, but if it was only for one night, I could cope with that.

Stay safe Pals!
