The Capers of Cilla
- October 2025
Bonjour mis amigos,
Cilla here being fully European having spent a couple of weeks in France. Who knew that being a rescue Galgo (maybe Podenco in disguise!) could be so much fun? I packed my chews and happily sat strapped into the motorhome with my new safety harness for the journey to Le Shuttle. And guess what, the nice doggy customs folk gave me a bag of Forthglade treats, que bueno!!
We stayed at several places ini France, heading southwesterly, but one of the first surprises was a nice town called Orbec in Normandy. It had a free overnight stop by the side of a small park near a waterwheel. Famous for that waterwheel, a music school and apparently, mushrooms, Orbec is a really nice, cultural place. And, by chance, there was some sort of anniversary in town and everyone was having a street party. Que divertido. For a young, silly galgo I was very brave and watched a band and some revellers before chasing the local ducks (on lead, boo).
One of the next stops was even more me, a vineyard with lots of butterflies and moths to chase. Oh yes, and naturally pretty countryside and nice buildings, but moths by moonlight... wow my life is complete! Chateau Bertinerie it was called and like most wineries in Bourdeaux you can park your van overnight for free as long as you buy some wine. Not an issue for Elaine. It really was lovely, lots of vines to walk around, the most amazing sunset and, of course, those moths.
Cills x
Good capers: sunsets, moonlight and MOTHS!
Bad capers: micro chip scanners at customs, harnesses, not being allowed to eat moths.
