Duke visits Petworth, West Sussex
- August 2023

Hi Pals,
I want to tell you about my trip to Petworth National Trust in West Sussex
www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/sussex/petworth
I am going to break my visit into 2 articles as there is so much to tell. Part 1 is the Elmer elephant trail at Petworth which runs from 27th May - 3rd September 2023 www.wildinart.co.uk/wia-event/elmer-petworth

Elmers is a patchwork Elephant described in a book by David McKee. There are 10 elephants parading across the grounds of Petworth.

As you walk into the visitors centre at Petworth you can collect a trail map showing where you can find the Elmer’s

The leaflet tells you that on every elephant is a secret letter which you make a note of and then unscramble the letters to make a word. Unfortunately my hoomans forgot to bring a pen so they never got to do this. I’m a hound so remembering 10 letters is a bit past me.

The first one I found was called floating in the now which had a great picture of a dog being walked.

I posed in front of the elephants but unfortunately there were misbehaving kids who ignored the signs and tried to climb the elephants.

The orange one was nice but hoodad wasn’t so keen as it had a deer on it. His car remembers what happened when it met a deer.

The trail to find them took about 1.5 hours to compete with the last one being the original patchwork Elmer.  You can find them all outside the house and in the gardens.

I hope this is the start of trail walks as I intend to do trails in Leeds to see the bears, Buckingham to see the swans, Swindon to see the big dogs and later in the year Brighton is getting Shaun the sheep.

Join me next month when I tell you about the rest of my visit to Petworth.
Love and Licks
