Duke visits The Snow Dogs
- January 2024

So what’s the oldest house that you have been in?
Well for me it’s a house that’s over 300 years old. Where is this I hear you say, well it’s called Dinefwr National Trust property
www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/dinefwr

I was on holibobs in Welshpool and took a 1h45 minute ride in the Dukemobile to Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire Wales.

Yes after visiting 80 plus national trust places I finally got to go in one.  Dinefwr is dog friendly allowing well behaved dogs to go into the ground floor and the basement.

The Newtown house has a large living room complete with large fire place. I wanted to lie in front of it but hoomans said you have only just got here keep walking. Into a hallway below the stairs.

The hoomans took it in turns to go upstairs to the exhibition area.
On display was a collection of mushrooms found on the estate (including magic ones). In the corner of the 1 room on the east side was a light up area of the floorboards containing the skeleton of a cat that was supposed to keep the evil spirits away. In the meantime I was getting fuss from one of house experience volunteers.

After they had both gone to exhibition floor I got to go to the basement. I saw the shoe polishing and hat moulding area. I got worried when I saw the bath

But then I remembered 300 years ago they didn’t have hair dryers so they would never have got me dry.  I also went into the cellar and there were beds under the bottles so I had to try it out.

Before going into the kitchen. This had worn me out so another lie down was needed in the dog friendly cafe.
Hoodad had some Bara Brith cake but I never saw any.  I got told it was because it’s a fruit cake.  I wasn’t the only dog in the cafe there was 2 Labradors and a blind Terrier. Suitably refreshed it was time to leave the house.

On the grass out the front of the house is a cafe hatch open in the summer and does doggy ice cream,  as well as games. There was croquet and chess.
I think I made a good black King.

We followed up the path and then came across some of the locals. (Don’t worry there is an electric fence between us.

On the other side of the path was some deer as well. The path did a loop to the right before coming back towards the house.

I loved my trip to Dinefwr and loved going in the house. The national trust handbook gives it a 3 paw very dog friendly rating and I agree thanks for being dog friendly xx

Until next time
Love and licks
