Lucy and Nelson - On the Move
October 2026
Hola Amigos/woof hello Buddies
We are Lucy and Nelson from #ERSRemovals back again and checking in with all our Furry Amigos.
Nelson: What have we been up to? Well woof secret dog stuff bol.
Lucy: One of our Homans has broken his hip so that’s ouch and means he is strange walker thing well its not as strange now after a month and a bit we guess.
Nelson: Anyways as you know we go often to the Turre Graveyard with our hoomans so we are helping them on a social history thingy.
Don’t ask Lucy no idea what it means either and if they find out more they will let us tell you more but that got us thinking careful Lucy you and thinkings dangerous about what you can see with your eyes that tells you about the local history
So while we are at a different eye level than the hoomans we still have noticed a few things ,
Well we never noticed until Ashley looked it up as a part of research on some random Turre facts and was like ChatGPT says x and Y about Turre Graveyard and he was like um is it right so we started paying way more attention
Lucy: Well what did Chatgpt say first Nelson did Ashley say ,
Nelson: woof he did that it says you can tell the different ages of the parts of the graveyard by the different styles of builidng of the niches and the different plaque styles etc.
Lucy: Oh do you plan to tell us about the etc ?
Nelson: Yes of course right so yeap the Turre Grave yard opened in 1924 (based on the fact the gates and some of the crypts have that date) but was not Turre First.
Lucy: Woof yeap haven’t we found a few niches with older dates and a few of the graves?
Nelson: Woof one second, Lucy asking Ashley or mum.
Lucy: They say yes,
Nelson: but anyway, where were we, the things chatgpt said, yes that has some truth you can see the changes in style of the years as the cypyt plates seem to have the same styles for a period, of what seems to be roughly 10 years but the changes where in some periods more subtle than others.
Anyway until the roughly early 2000s it was rare to have the person who niche grave it is photo on it Ashley says Nelson with a few expections like the Armed forces medic who died in 1952 we are trying to research, but come the late 90s and early 2000s there start been way more niche marker styles and for a want of a better hooman word Lucy way more unique to the person who’s niches they are, as we have found ones with football club badges or one who was a blacksmith (also trying to research) who has a metal rose we well Ashley and Mum think was his own work on his niche topped by a carved anvil.
Unlike UK grave yards a Spanish Grave yards are laid out a lot differently as it is mainly Niches and a there are cypts to or as there are called in Spanish Patheons (yes like a bunch of gods as that is how Ashley Remembers it) 3 are built into the outer walls with 2 been from what we and the hoomans can tell original ,there are also quite a few down the path that leads from the gate to the middle of the grave yard some are actually quite tall and can be even at doggo height can be spotted when walking towards the place.
Lucy: Woof yes Nelson have you mentioned the biggest one is roughly in the exact middle but from outside looks like its more towards the back?
Nelson: No you just did. Turre does have a few graves one that we have noticed is from 1918.
Lucy: Yeap we didn’t need to check as that is easy to see as it is right by the path and at doggy level Woof we are dogs we don’t walk in a straight line while on walkies bol so why should we write in one so circling back to the Chatgpt thing, it also said you can see the different ages of the graveyard as in when parts where built (woof using that word as its easier to spell for Hooman ashley when he type)
Nelson: Yes you sure can and thats forgetting that we saw recently them building some more niche columns.
Lucy: Yes Nelson we mean the damaged really old one on the front wall is built with stone work , and the older ones on the side wall are lower in height than the newer ones, and all that, woof talking of, You said social circling history ?
Nelson: No Ashley back did woof, Anyway yes these things we have mentioned don’t only show the way things changed in a physical sense right Lucy but a change in how different decades felt it was right to honour the dead, the 1940 had many the same style but by the 2000s as said earlier way more variety and personal aspects so it is not to say they have moved away from religious displays like the earlier decades but feel maybe this is our opinion so feel free to disagree but feel able to express more personal taste of the dead family members than pervious decades would have felt was right and proper.
Lucy: Oh so we are saying Nelson, not only have tastes and styles changed and you can see that with the niche markers but the way people feel about how to display that in regards their faith as catholics?
Nelson: Yes woof Lucy I think that is our take away
