Animal shelter ask the Royal Navy for help

The Guenrsey Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) rescued a turtle they named Barnacle Bill from Chouet Bay in November and have asked the Royal Navy to help rehome him.

It was believed the loggerhead turtle had been washed away from the warmer waters of the Mediterranean during Storm Ciaran.

The Royal Navy's help was being sought after sailors had previously rehomed nine sea turtles by returning them back to warmer waters.

The GSPCA said it was not possible to get Bill to join a recent trip, but it could be a possible option in the future.

Loggerhead turtles could live around 70 to 80 years, although scientists are still not really sure how old they can live for.
They live all over the oceans, but tend to avoid the colder waters to the north and south that are nearer to the poles.

They travel vast distances, with some females swimming over 12,000 km in 2 to 3 years, back to the beach they were born on in order to lay their own eggs
