Remembering Tess
Repawter: Rosanne and David
Tess was diagnosed with an aggressive mouth cancer on the 8th January. During the evening of Tuesday 20th, Tess was showing signs of increasing discomfort, she never settled for long during the night, and she was lacking her usual appetite the following morning. We knew that the dreaded time had arrived and took Tess to the vets, where she went to sleep.
We got Tess as a puppy in July 2011 and her Kennel Club name was Isle of Canty Perfect Tess. However, we believed her registered name wasn't fancy enough for Tess the supamodel and we would tell people her registered name was Tess Bess Boo Star Ziggle Zaggle Wiggle Waggle Woof Woof Woof! If you called her that she would start to do a spinning happy dance!
Having Tess for over 14 years, we have so many happy memories of her.
Tess loved her soft toys, and once she grew out of the puppy chewing stage, she had an impressive selection. But her love of soft toys was surpassed by her love of cushions! One at the patio door to rest her head whilst sun puddling and 6 on or around her bed. She would always take one with her, no matter where she was going in the house or on holiday.
Tess was also a keen gardener, loved bringing in pears that had fallen off the neighbour's tree, and she was known to trample over and use the plants in pots in front of the plum tree to try and get to the plums!
Being a spaniel, Tess loved her food and turned her love into recipes for Tiggers Tails. Tess especially loved cake, berries and ice cream. On holiday, Tess would pull into the ice cream shop and could never understand when it was closed.
Tess welcomed Fred and Rufus into our family. When Tess decided she wanted to be where Fred was, she walked over him and if he didn't move, then she would sit on him until he moved.
All the time, Fred just wagged his tail and let Tess boss him!
We had not long had Fred when I decided to make a mille-feuille and was delighted when my puff-pastry came out of the oven thin and looking professional. I left the kitchen and within 15 seconds heard a clatter. I ran back in and the only evidence of the pastry was the baking tin on the floor and crumbs on Tess and Fred’s head and whiskers!
With Rufus you would frequently find him curled up on Tess's bed with her, even though he had his own bed beside her bed!
With all three of our wonderful dogs gone, our house is uncomfortably quiet, there is no excited welcome when you come through the front door. We are finding it hard not tripping over a dog or being able to open the fridge without a dog having a look to see what they could have.
Having a dog will bless you with the happiest of days, and one of the worst.
